My phone was stolen this evening at a bar in Darling Harbour. We went on a mad chase through Sydney CBD and into Chinatown to get it back but had no luck. I don't know why Apple hasn't added a feature where the cameras automatically turn on when you open Find My iPhone. Then you would know who had your phone and where they were. There's an app which does a similar thing but of course I hadn't got around to installing it yet. Just like I hadn't got around to getting my phone insured (Yes Dad, you told me so).
I really hadn't realised how much I rely on it. The thing I'm most worried about is how I'm going to wake up in the morning. That was my alarm clock. I don't have another one. I'm considering building an elaborate Rube Goldberg style machine to wake me up in 8 hours.
I was in the middle of reading the third book of Game of Thrones on my Kindle app. I have no idea which page I was on. Is that info stored in the cloud? How many pictures did I take today? were they any good? When did I last back up my phone? How will I see anyone's Snapchats/instagrams/vines? You mean I actually have to log into a computer to go on Facebook and Twitter and every other social media? I have no idea what time the bus is coming. I'm going to be forever lost. I will never know the exact time. I'm going to have to always be on time, never late. No change of plans and no spontaneity. What's the weather doing tomorrow? What song is this? How did people live like this? How did I live like this?
Suddenly I'm on the other side of the world and can't contact my family in a millisecond. That makes me feel a lot further away. Tomorrow's going to be a #digitaldetox. I'll let you know how it goes. If I manage to wake up in time.
